- 1 Week: 06 Preparing date: 07/10/2023 Teaching date: 09/10/2023 PERIOD 16: UNIT 3. TEENAGERS LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED I. AIMS 1. Knowledge By the end of this lesson students will be able to: - have general understandings of the topic “Teenagers”. - listen and read for specific information about “It’s great to see you again” to have an overview about the topic “Teenagers”. 1.1. Vocabulary: forum, stress, stressful, pressure, user-friendly, mid-term 1.2. Grammar: simple sentences and compound sentences. 2. Competences - Develop communication skills and creativity - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities 3. Quality - Love talking about themselves and their problems. II. TEACHING AIDS 1. Students: Student’s book, workbook. 2. Teachers: Students’ book, workbook, tape script, projector, pictures, sachmem.vn. III. TEACHING PROCEDURES 1. Class organization/ Warm up: Play game: I.N.I.T.I.A.L game - T divides the class into 2 teams. - T shows 9 different pictures - Ss are shown different pictures and they need to take the first letter from each picture to form the mystery word. - Which team finds the mystery word first will become the winner. - T leads to the new unit. Write the unit title Teenagers on the board. Ask Ss to unit title on the board. - Ask Ss to guess what they are going to learn about in this unit. 2. New lesson 2.1. Vocabulary + forum (n) /ˈfɔːrəm/: diễn đàn + stress (n) /stres/: sự căng thẳng + stressful (adj) /ˈstresfl/: căng thẳng, tạo áp lực + pressure (n) /ˈpreʃə(r)/: áp lực + user-friendly (n) /ˌjuːzə ˈfrendli/): thân thiện với người dùng + midterm (adj) /ˌmɪdˈtɜːm/: giữa kỳ 2.2. Activities a. Activity 1: Listen and read. (Part 1. Page 28) * Objective: - To set the context for the introductory dialogue.
- 2 - To introduce the topic of the unit. * Content: Learn some new words. Read the conversation and find our new words. * Output: Know more new words. Understand the conversation, topic of the lesson. * Process: - Set the context: Have Ss look at the conversation and the picture, and answer some questions, e.g: Who are the people? What might they be talking about? Encourage Ss to answer, but do not confirm whether their answers are right. - Play the recording twice for Ss to listen and read along. Then invite some pairs of Ss to read the problems. - Refer to the questions previously asked. Confirm the correct answer: They are teacher and students. They are in a class meeting. They are discussing their class forum, club activities to participate in and their problems. - To helps Ss understand the main idea of the conversation, ask Ss to answer the question: What are the teacher and students discussing? b. Activity 2: Read the conversation again and tick T or F for each sentence.(Part 2. Page 29) * Objective: To help Ss understand the conversation. * Content: Read the conversation and do the task. * Output: Know more new words about school clubs. * Process: - Ask Ss to work in pairs to read the conversation again. - Ask them to underline the keywords and phrases in the statements. Then have pairs work together for one or two minutes to do the task. - Have Ss read out the statements and say if the statements are true or false. - Make sure they pronounce the words correctly. - Check the answers as a class and gives feedback. Answers: 1. F 2. T 3. T 4. F 5. T c. Activity 3: Write a word or phrase from the box under the correct picture. (Part 3. Page 29) * Objective: To help Ss learn words and phrases related to the topic Teenagers. * Content: Label the pictures. * Output: Match the correct words with the pictures * Process: - Ask Ss to work in pairs to match the pictures with the words or phrases. - Ask Ss to say the words / phrases aloud. Make sure they pronounce the words and phrases correctly. - T checks the answers as a class and gives feedback. Answers: 1. language club 2. pressure 3. arts and crafts club 4. forum 5. sports club 6. chess club d. Activity 4: Complete each of the sentences with a word or phrases in 3. There is one extra word or phrase. (Part 4. Page 29) * Objective: To help Ss use the vocabulary in 3 in the right context. * Content: Fill in each sentence with a word or phrase.
- 3 * Output: Understand the meaning of the word or phrase in the right context. * Process: - Ask Ss to work independently to complete each sentence with a word or phrase in 3. - Allow Ss to refer to the pictures, the words and phrases in 3, and the conversation if needed. - Check the answers as a class. - Ask several Ss to read aloud the full sentences. Correct Ss’ pronunciation if needed. Answers: 1. arts and crafts club 2. forum 3. language club 4. pressure 5. sports club e. Activity 5: Work in pairs. Ask and answer the questions below. Report your friend’s answers to the class. (Part 5. Page 29) * Objective: - To help Ss practise asking and answering questions for more information about their peers, and reporting information they have gathered; - To create a fun atmosphere in the class. * Content: Ask and answer questions about types of social media, kinds of pressure and clubs Ss participate in. * Output: Report their friend’s answers about types of social media, kind of pressure and clubs to the class. * Process: - Ask Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer questions. - Encourage Ss to provide their partners with as much information as possible, using vocabulary they have learnt when they answer the questions. - Ask some Ss to report information about their partners. T and other Ss listen and comment. 3. Consolidation - Refer to the unit title again, then together with Ss, orally list the issues that the teacher and students discuss in their class meeting. - Ask Ss to add any other issues relevant to teenagers which are not mentioned in the conversation. - Ask Ss to name several school clubs, pressure, and social media. 4. Homework - Name a list of school clubs and pressures. - Learn by heart the new words. - Prepare for Lesson 2 - A closer look 1 5. Teaching experience. (handwriting)
